New Jersey Association of Library Assistants
NJALA Treasurer and Conference Planning Co-Chair
They elected me Treasurer in June 2022. Additionally, I serve on the conference planning committee, finding virtual speakers, moderating virtual events, and generating feedback surveys for members. I manage all the digital record keeping and schedules for the group.
In 2020, all in-person planned events got cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, NJALA went entirely virtual, hosting two virtual events a month for members. The transition to all-digital was a success that has continued into 2022 and will remain in 2023.
My goals for NJALA are to merge with the New Jersey Library Association (NJLA), becoming a sub-unit of the larger statewide organization. Also, to incorporate more networking and mentor opportunities for library paraprofessionals who are not in library assistant and technician roles but want to network and gain supplemental education about their careers.

Teach for America
Fellowship Intern
From February 2022 to April 2022, I worked with Louisiana 3rd graders to improve their literacy skills in a virtual environment. We met in small groups, five days a week, for a half-hour each session. Topics covered were digital literacy skills over Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meets, reading comprehension, phonics, grammar, and developing questions to further understand the content.
We prepared for the Louisiana State Standardized Testing and all students showed improvement.
Since the program period ended, the class and I have remained pen-pals.
